Lock Your Cars, Police Warn After Several Thefts

At least four separate cars were broken into and had items removed during the weekend.

Lower Southampton police are reminding residents to keep their valuables secure in their cars after receiving four separate reports of vehicle break-ins over the weekend.

The first incident occurred Thursday evening at the Dolphin Swim Club, according to a police report. The report says a woman left her SUV unlocked and running as she walked to a nearby ballfield. When she returned, her pruse was missing out of her front passenger seat. The victim said her purse contained a checkbook and wallet with credit cards and a driver's license.

Another theft was reported at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Trevose Shopping Center. According to police, the thieves smashed the front passenger side window of the owner's red Honda and took a black work bag and a purse containing cash and credit cards, a total value of $900.

During the investigation, Lower Southampton officers discovered another car in the parking lot that had its driver-side rear window smashed. The owners reported a black leather briefcase containing a GPS device and a tan wallet were missing from the vehicle.

Finally, police responded to the Top of the Hill apartment complex at noon Sunday for a report of another vehicle break-in. The owner said that the driver side window of his Volkswagen was smashed and a portable DVD player was stolen off the dashboard.
