Lower Southampton Board of Supers Appoints New Member

The Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors had to fill a vacancy after John McMenamin resigned.

After former Chairman John McMenamin resigned to take on the township manager position full time, the Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors had to fill a vacancy. They did so last night by appointing Republican Patrick Irving, Phillyburbs reported. Though the board advertised that applications were being accepted to fill the board's vacancy, Irving was the only resident that interviewed for the position. , However, according to Phillyburbs, Supervisor Ed Shannon said he’s sure Irving “will do a hell of a job, for all of us.” During the annual reorganization meeting Monday night, the board also voted supervisor Julia Newman as new chairman and supervisor Keith Wesley was voted vice chairman, Phillyburbs reported. Applications Being Accepted for Board of Supers Vacancy

Are you interested in improving Lower Southampton? Apply to become a member of the township's board of supervisors.

Following former township manager Ted Taylor's termination, the Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors chairman John McMenamin resigned in order to temporarily fill that position. McMenamin has also submitted his resume to be considered for the township manager position permanently. Because of this, the Board of Supervisors will be accepting applications to fill McMenamin's unexpired term until Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. Those interested in being considered for this position should send their resume to the township's executive secretary Janet Hude at the township building 1500 Desire Avenue, Feasterville, PA 19053. Board of Supers to Hold Interviews for Parks & Rec Director

The Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors will be interviewing candidates for the Parks and Recreation Director position Wednesday night.

Prior to their meeting Wednesday night, the Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors will be holding interviews for the township's Parks and Recreation Director. The township's former Parks and Rec Director Marian Gilbert resigned from her position this past September. She held that position for about four years. During the Board of Supervisors meeting, the board will consider approving a change of policy manual as well as renewing the lease for Rep. Frank Farry's (R) district office on Desire Avenue. No Tax Increase in Lower Southampton 2013 Budget

The Board of Supervisors approved the township's 2013 preliminary budget Wednesday night.

Following several months of budget workshops, the Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors announced that the preliminary 2013 budget features no tax increase for residents. In addition, board chairman John McMenamin announced that township seniors 65 years and older will receive a sanitation rebate of $50 next year, which is an increase of $30 from 2012. Other than no tax increase and a increase in seniors' sanitation rebate, finance director Robert Butts said that the only major change in the budget from 2012 to 2013 is that there is a "redistribution of millage across the funds." In the 2013 budget, the township is predicting about $8.7 million in total expenditures and $8.4 million total revenue, which creates a $332,840 deficit. The …

Township Manager Fired for 'Political Differences, Communication Issues'

Ted Taylor's last day as Lower Southampton Township's manager is Thursday, Nov. 14, 2012.

At the close of Wednesday night's Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors meeting, it was announced that township manager Ted Taylor had been terminated from his position and that Thursday, Nov. 15 would be his last day. Board Chairman John McMenamin told Taylor during the meeting that he and the board appreciated his service to Lower Southampton and him being "upfront and forward" with them. Taylor has served as the township manager for five years, however, according to him, he was terminated due to "political differences" with the Board of Supervisors. Supervisors Ed Shannon and Keith Wesley said the termination stemmed from "communication issues." McMenamin elaborated and said Taylor's firing came from "more of a divide" between the …

Board of Supervisors to Approve Preliminary 2013 Budget

The Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors will consider approving the preliminary 2013 operating budget Wednesday night.

When the Lower Southampton Board of Supvisors meet Wednesday night, its members will consider approving the preliminary 2013 annual operating budget. They will also consider approving the preliminary capital fund reserve fund budget, sewer capital fund reserve fund budget, library capital fund reserve fund budget and operating reserve fund budget. In addition, the board will hold a hearing for an ordinance that would establish regulations for pawn brokers and dealers of precious metals, antiques and second hand items. This ordinance would help prevent stolen items from being sold at pawn shops and similar businesses. FBA Presents Grants to 13 Bucks County Service Organizations

The Feasterville Business Association presented grant money to 13 Bucks County service organizations Wednesday night.

The Feasterville Business Association presented grant money to 13 Bucks County charities and service organizations that serve the Lower Southampton community Wednesday night. FBA President Ray Greenberg said that the association holds only one fundraiser each year to fund the grants -- its annual golf outting. This year, Greenberg said, the association was able to raise $8,300. $500 grants were presented to A Woman's Place; Network of Victim's Assistance; Sunshine Foundation; the American Red Cross; Chandler Hall; D.A.R.E.; Libertae; the Friends of the Lower Southampton Library; the Lower Southampton Police Department; the Neshaminy Senior Center; Sean Me; Twilight Wish Foundation; and the Hope Foundation. Prior to the business portion of the Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors meeting tonight, the Feasterville Business Association will be presenting grants to 13 Bucks County service organizations. These organizations include A Woman's Place; Network of Victim's Assistance; Sunshine Foundation; the American Red Cross; Chandler Hall; D.A.R.E.; Libertae; the Friends of the Lower Southampton Library; the Lower Southampton Police Department; the Neshaminy Senior Center; Sean Me; Twilight Wish Foundation; and the Hope Foundation. The grants that will be given to these groups were raised through the business association's annual charity golf outting.
