A local beer store settled with the family of a University of Pennsylvania student who fell to his death at a fraternity party in 2011.
The parents of a 20-year-old college student from Yardley who fell to his death at a fraternity party have settled with Suds Beer Store in Trevose for $375,000. They also settled with the University of Pennsylvania for an undisclosed amount and the Phi Kappa Sigma house for $3 million, according to Action News. The lawsuit stated that Matthew Crozier feel 30 feet from a stairway at the frat house after a New Year's Eve party in 2011. In addition, the lawsuit alleges that Crozier was allowed to buy beer at thebeer store on the 2400 block of Old Lincoln Highway and underage drink at the party. Between April 27-29, Trevose troopers responded to the following incidents: On April 27 at 7:31 p.m., state police stopped a vehicle at Langhorne-Yardley Road at Bridgetown Pike in Middletown. The driver, Carol Gannon, 52, of Levittown, was found to be intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. She faces charges in district court. Trooper Thomas Geerlof investigated the incident. On April 28 at 2:30 a.m., state police responded to a vehicle stopped in the shoulder on I-95 northbound at milepost 35 in Bensalem. The driver, Jeanette Bell, 25, of Hamilton, NJ, was found to be intoxicated. She faces DUI charges. Trooper Brandon Horlacher investigated the incident. Seven teens were found to be drinking prior to a dance August 12.
According to a police report, Sergeant Frank Leonhardt and Officer Jeffrey Wilson were conducting a detail at the Sportsplex August 13 where a teen dance was being held. While conducting the detail, seven teens were found to have been drinking alcohol before entering the dance. All seven teens submitted to a breath test and registered in a range of .04 percent to .25 percent. All of the teens were cited for underage drinking and one was also cited for public drunkenness. They were released to their respective parents. Their names were withheld as they are all minors.

Between July 22-25, state police from the Trevose station responded to the following incidents: On July 22 at 12:36 p.m., police stopped a vehicle driven by Christopher R. Geier, 21, of Elizabethville, on westbound Woodhaven Road in Bensalem for a traffic violation. Geier was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. He faces possession charges in district court. Trooper Carrie Gula investigated the incident. On July 22 at 5:20 p.m., Sarah J. Francht, 29, went to the state police Trevose station to update her Megan’s Law registration and was found to be wanted in Philadelphia for a probation violation. Police caught four youths trespassing and underage drinking on Ferderbar's grounds July 13.
Four youths were caught by police trespassing and underage drinking on Joseph Ferderbar Elementary and Poquessing Middle School grounds just after midnight Wednesday, July 13. Police responded to Joseph Ferderbar on a report of four subjects trespassing and hanging out by the pool at Ferderbar, and possibility drinking and swimming in the pool. Upon arrival, Officer Brian Walter observed two males and two females by the playground at Ferderbar. They began walking towards the rear of Poquessing on the grass when they saw police arrive. A new study found that underage drinking-related ER visits double for males during the July 4th weekend.
Fourth of July weekend is a time of celebration, cookouts and fire works, but for young people it is a time of underage drinking, according to the findings of a new study. A study conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA] found that "during the holiday weekend of July 3-5, 2009, there was a daily average of 942 emergency department visits related to alcohol use by people under the age of 21," according to a press release that was released July 1, 2011. Two thirds, or 622, of those visits were made by males; 320 visits were made by females.
