Through the generous donations of the Heckman faculty and community, 14 needy families from within Oliver Heckman Elementary were provided with complete Thanksgiving dinners, plus additional pantry items. According to a Neshaminy School District press release, the school nurse Colleen McIlhenny coordinated the efforts of the school and community. Lower Southampton Police arrested two drivers suspected of driving under the influence the night before Thanksgiving.
The following information was supplied by the Lower Southampton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. For full details from the police reports, click on the attached PDF file. On Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, a 60-year-old Feasterville man was found to be driving under the influence. Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Bridgetown Pike at about 9:46 p.m. for the report of a one-vehicle accident. At the scene, officers found a black Ford Explorer resting against a utility pole along the side of the southbound lane. The vehicle also struck and snapped a second utility pole completely in half. Neshaminy High School's Family and Consumer Science students prepared their annual Thanksgiving feast in Today's Foods classes without wasting any food. According to a school district press release, the students in the Today's Foods classes spent most of November preparing for their annual Thanksgiving feast. They planned menus, collected recipes, wrote shopping lists and prepared the dishes for the meal. The students also studied the history leading up to the historic meal. In the class, time was also spent teaching the technique of formal table setting for a holiday meal and praticing the art of table manners. More Lower Southampton Police officers will be out Thanksgiving Eve looking for impaired drivers.
The night before Thanksgiving, or as some call it Thanksgiving Eve, is one of the biggest "drinking" holidays of the year. Because of that, the Lower Southampton Police Department will be increasing its patrols Wednesday night and will be on the look out for impaired drivers. "That's always a busy night and our officers will be looking out for DUIs as they always do," Lieutenant Ted Krimmel told Patch. "Typically we see a slight increase in alcohol related incidents around the holidays," he added. Often more popular than the turkey itself, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and other favorites are staples of the food coma-inducing meal. Try one of the recipes below to bring a new taste to your Thanksgiving feast. Gauge the amount of squash you’ll need by allowing 1 small squash (acorn and butternut are good choices) for every four people. Cut each squash in half lengthwise and remove seeds. Brush sides and inner cavity with olive oil and place flesh-side down on a lightly-oiled baking sheet.
