The Newtown, CT school shooting has spurred some retailers to suspend gun sales.
Christmas shopping for the outdoorsman may be a little different this year. Dick's Sporting Goods has suspended sales of semi-automatic weapons at its stores following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, according to a report from CNN. The chain includes 511 stores in 44 states, and posted this message to its web site: We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community. A government agency has produced a video that shows what to do in an active shooter situation.
With several incidents involving active shooters over the past few months, a video from Houston's disaster preparedness agency shows viewers how to react if confronted with an active shooter situation. Lower Southampton Police and police departments around Bucks County often practice drills that involve active shooter situations. Lower Southampton Police Chief William Wiegman told Patch that all police officers have been trained in Active Shooter Response. He also said that officers have been reminded on this training they received in light of last week's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. Neshaminy School District Superintendent Robert Copeland reassures the community that district schools are prepared for emergency situations.
Just like communities across the country, the Neshaminy community is morning the loss of life in the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. "No words can adequately express the senseless taking of innocent lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the parents, family members, school staff and community members. A candle light vigil will be held tonight, Monday, Dec. 17 to honor those who lost their lives in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
To honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Herbert Hoover Elementary teachers have organized a candle light vigil. The vigil will be held Monday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. at Hoover Elementary located at 501 Trenton Road, Langhorne. If you would like to join the teachers and community members in honoring those who lost their lives, please bring a battery operated or wax candle.

Mary Sherlach, the mother-in-law of Patch writer Eric Schwartz, was among 27 people killed in the second-deadliest school shooting in American history.
The deadly shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, claimed the life of a Patch writer's family member. Mary Sherlach, the school's psychologist, was among 26 people, including 20 children, who died when a gunman opened fire at the school Friday morning. The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Adam Lanza, also died in the rampage. Sherlach was the mother-in-law of Deptford resident Eric Schwartz, a longtime Patch freelancer who covers high school sports in South Jersey. Sherlach, 56, lived in Trumbull, CT. Schwartz and his wife, Maura, arrived in Connecticut on Friday evening to be with their family. They could not be reached for comment.
