Beware Texts About Fake Gift Cards

The Bucks County Office of Consumer Protection offers advice to a Warrington man who got a text claiming that he had won a $1,000 gift card.

Q.      I have been holiday shopping at various locations throughout Bucks County ever since Black Friday. It has been a hectic few weeks but I am close to finishing up getting all the items on my list. Then yesterday I received a text message on my cell phone from Best Buy letting me know I had won a $1,000 gift card! What great news; just in time for the holidays! The text directed me to follow the link to their website in order to enter the code number that was included in the text message. I have not done this yet because, when I shared the text with my wife, she said it was a scam and that I did not win anything. I disagree.  I think I did win.  D.M. Police Identify ID Theft Suspect

The subject allegedly stole multiple Lower Southampton residents' identities and opened credit cards and memberships with them.

Lower Southampton Police have identified Michael Dawes, 55 of Philadelphia, as the subject who allegedly stole multiple Lower Southampton residents' identities. According to Detective Eric Landamia, in 2010 stole the identifying information of two Lower Southampton Township residents within one week of each other. He used the information to open memberships and credit accounts with various retailers, including Costco, police said. Early last month, another Lower Southampton Township resident reported the theft of his identity with the information having been used to open credit accounts with Lowe’s, Sears and Sam’s Club. Police Investigate Identity Theft, Access Device Fraud

Police are seeking information about the subjects in the surveillance photos in relation to identity theft and access device fraud.

The Lower Southampton Township Police Department is seeking information about two suspects (pictured above) who allegedly stole the identity of a Lower Southampton resident and subsequently used their credit and debit cards. Detective Eric Landamia said the purchases were made at a Brooklyn Target and the suspects' vehicle has a New York registration. Anyone who can identify these subjects is asked to contact the Lower Southampton Township Police Dispatch at 215-357-1234; Detective Landamia at 215-357-1235 ext. 339 or ELandamia@Lstwp.org. In 2010, the pictured subject stole the identifying information of two Lower Southampton Township residents within one week of each other. Son Turns in Feasterville Dad for Identity Theft

A Lower Southampton man was turned into police by his son over identity theft charges.

A Lower Southampton man is facing identity theft charges following his son telling police that he was using a stolen identity to avoid legal problems in Virginia. According to a PhillyBurbs report, Ronnie Lee Durham, 49 of Feasterville, is facing seven felonies, including five identity theft charges after police say they found multiple documents, including U.S. passports, a birth certificate, and driver’s licenses in the name and with the birth date of a Mississippi man. Lower Southampton Detective Eric Landamia told PhillyBurbs that Durham in order to escape civil legal problems in Virginia, including a divorce settlement and business-related lawsuits. Troopers Report Theft, Identity Theft, DUI

The following information was provided by the Pennsylvania State Police Trevose station. It does not imply conviction.

On Feb. 22, Trevose troopers reported the following incidents: State Police are reporting an identity theft incident that occurred on Dec. 15. Police said Joseph. J. Piazza, 32, of Levittown, the Pennsylvania driver’s license of Preston J. Piazza, 31, of Levittown. Charges were filed in district court. Trooper Christopher Nacios investigated the incident. On Feb. 20 at 4:05 p.m., state police responded to Parx Casino for a reported theft. Police said a 54-year-old Philadelphia woman took $200 out of an 84-year-old man’s pocket and fled the scene. The victim did not want to file charges. Trooper Daniel Reed investigated the incident. On Feb. 21 at 2:15 a.m., state police stopped a vehicle for speeding (83 mph in a 55 mph zone) on I-95 …
