Firefighters from Trevose and Bristol were awarded by the Bucks County Fire Chiefs and Firefighters Association Monday night for their acts of bravery during two incidents last December.
Trevose Fire Chief Ron Doster received what he calls "the best Christmas gift ever" last December when he found out his sons, Tim and Chris Doster, along with fellow Trevose firefighter Brian Armstrong, survived a successful rescue attempt from a house fire on Orchard Lane in Feasterville. "I didn't know until later that day that they were the ones that went inside," said Chief Doster. "Tim and Chris are fourth generation firefighters, they were raised right." The intent of a checkpoint is to keep drivers safe, police say.
The Pennsylvania State Police at Trevose on Monday announced the results of a DUI checkpoint it staged over the weekend. Between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday at an unspecified location in Bucks County police The checkpoints are designed to keep drivers safe, police said. "The goal of a roving DUI detail is to reduce the number of alcohol- and drug-related fatal and serious crashes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania's highways," they said in a written release.
It's a good idea to lock your car.
Middletown Township police report the following recent thefts: A log splitter valued at $1,500 was reportedly removed from a home on Tollgate Road between May 9 and May 10. A GPS valued at $50 was reportedly removed from an unlocked Nissan parked on Longview Avenue between 10 p.m. Friday and 7:20 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Thefts in the past week include a stroller and a bicycle.
A light green Huffy Beach Cruiser bicycle with brown trim was reported stolen at 11:01 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Lafayette Street. It was valued at $125. A red Chicco umbrella stroller worth $80 was reportedly taken from DiGiuseppe Drive at 9:07 p.m. on Monday. Police reports were provided by the Bristol Borough Police Department.

No one was injured in a shooting that occurred Monday morning in Newtown Borough. The Bucks County District Attorney has taken over the investigation. The police officer who killed an 89-year-old neighbor of the man involved in a shootout with police at a Warminster apartment complex in February has identified himself in court. The sons of Jean Carson, the woman who drowned after falling into Neshaminy Creek while attending a party on Dec. 19, are seeking compensation from the party's host. The Warminster woman who is facing charges for allegedly stealing thousands from the Newtown Veterinary Hospital as a former employee recently had a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Donald Nasshorn.

Pennsylvania State Police will conduct the checkpoints throughout Bucks County.
Pennsylvania State Police at Trevose issued a statement Wednesday of their plan to conduct a "Sobriety Checkpoint" some time or times between Friday and Sunday. "A sobriety checkpoint is a traffic safety checkpoint wherein Pennsylvania State Troopers systematically stop vehicles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers for articulable facts and/or behaviors normally associated with alcohol or drug impaired drivers," the statement said. In other words, troopers will stop drivers and ask them questions. If drivers easily answer them and show no other signs of impairment, there's no problem. A 31-year-old Feasterville woman was cited for retail theft, according to Middletown Township police. Items taken from the Redner's Warehouse Market on East Lincoln Highway totaled $55, police said.
