Leukemia Survivorship 5K Walk/Run to be Held This Weekend

The non-profit's second annual 5K will be held Saturday, April 28.

The Lower Southampton-based MEC Leukemia Survivorship Foundation is hosting its Saturday, April 28 at .

The foundation, which is named after Leukemia survivor Molly Elizabeth Crooks, . This 5K, which was the organization's first fundraiser,  -- the hospital were Molly was received a bone marrow transplant from her sister, Kristen.

The proceeds from this year's 5K will benefit the Oncology Fund at St. Christopher's Foundation for Children. Non-profit President and LSAA President Tony Crooks said that his family "has very special place in our hearts for the oncology team at St. Christopher's" because this is where Molly received her initial diagnosis when she was two years old and was treated there as an inpatient three different times from October 1998 until February 1999.

Crooks also said that Molly was followed up by St. Christopher's until December, 2001 when she relapsed and received a second round of chemotherapy there.

"Many of the same people still work tirelessly caring for others and we want to give back to them now," Crooks said of the proceeds benefitting St. Christopher's this year.

Molly, who is considered cured of leukemia, is now 15 years old and in ninth grade at Nazareth Academy; she previously attended .

Registration for the 5K begins April 28 at 7:30 a.m. and the run/walk begins at 9 a.m. The registration fee is $25, pre-registration fee is only $20. Click here to download the pre-registration form.
