Dr. Martin Luther King Day was not just a day off for students at Maple Point Middle School.
The students and staff from the Middletown school and Our Lady of Grace took part in the Day of Service by cooking and preparing 1825 meals and 847 breakfast bags for those in need, according to the school district. The meals were cooked and packaged at the Aid for Friends kitchen in Philadelphia.
Meals prepared by the 250 students and staff were sent to elderly residents and shut-ins throughout the area, the district said.
The Maple Point Student Council help collect funds and food for the project.
This was the 11th year the school has prepared food for the Day of Service.
