Board of Supervisors Authorize Advertisement of Various Ordinances

Township officials requested the board to authorize the advertisement of several ordinances.

During Wednesday's Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors' meeting, the fire marshal, zoning officer and township manager asked for the board to authorize the advertisement of various ordinances.

The ordinances township Fire Marshal William Oettinger requested the board's authorization to advertise included a commercial accountability registration form that he said businesses complete annually and an annual emergency contact information request for emergency services.

Zoning Officer Carol Drioli requested that the board authorize advertisement for ordinances that would establish a stop sign at Waycross and S. Westview avenues, change times for private trash collection to limit noise associated with trash pick up between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., and strike “firearms” from park regulations.

According to township solicitor Francis Dillon, in the ordinance there is a clause prohibiting firearms in parks, but there is a state law and local municipalities are precluded to regulated fire arms. However, Police Chief William Wiegman said that “it is illegal to discharge firearms in the township.”

Township manager Ted Taylor requested that the board authorize advertisement of an ordinance that would establish in the township an educational service agency for unemployment compensation matters.

The Board unanimously approved advertisement of all the ordinances presented to them. They will discuss and vote to approve the ordinances at a later meeting.

In other business, Donna Durnan was appointed to serve a three-year term in the Animal Control Advisory Board. Taylor announced that Bustleton Pike will be closed for a week starting October 31 for railroad crossing upgrade.
