Board of Supervisors Approve Final Budget With No Tax Hike

The Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the township's final 2012 budget, which included no tax hike for residents.

The Lower Southampton Board of Supervisors approved the township's final 2012 budget Wednesday evening, which includes no tax hike.

The township's millage rate will remain at 14.08. According to township officials, a home in Lower Southampton assessed at approximately $24,985 will pay about $351.79 in taxes in 2012.

Sewer rates will also remain the same.

Township manager Ted Taylor said that a portion of the real estate tax revenue was moved from the general fund to the debt service fund. Township officials stated that the debt service requirements will be increasing next year.

In other business, the board awarded a contract to J.P. Mascaro for the township's trash removal. The contract won't begin until May 1, 2012 and it will remain in effect until December 31, 2015. When this contract goes into effect, residents will only have one weekly trash pickup and they will be provided with a 64-gallon wheeled recycle receptacle.
