Narcotics Possession

At about 1:42 p.m., an officer was clocking traffic on Bridgetown Pike in front of Lower Southampton Elementary. In the marked 15 mph zone, the officer observed a black Chevy Monte Carlo traveling at 29 mph. The officer stopped the vehicle on Bridgetown and Lewis Street. After making contact with the 41-year-old female driver from no fixed address, she provided the officer with an expired New Jersey Operator's License Number. After running her information, the officer found that she had a suspended and expired license. She said she was from Wildwood, NJ, but had just recently moved into the area. Police advised her that her vehicle was being impounded due to her license being suspended and because the vehicle was partially blocking the roadway. At this time, she became verbally combative and abusive toward the officer in front of passing motorists. She began yelling at the officer that he had no right to search her car and that he needed a search warrant. The officer advised her that he was not searching the car, but that he was required to do an inventory of the vehicle. She immediately began to walk up to her vehicle and place herself in front of the officer near the driver's side door so that he couldn't inventory the car. The officer ordered her to move off of the roadway and away from the vehicle. Another officer arrived on the scene at this time. As the vehicle was being inventoried, the driver requested a large brown purse on the back seat. The officer made sure to look inside the purse first to ensure it didn't contain any weapons and that it did belong to her. A small wallet in the purse contained two jars of suspected marijuana and several bottles of prescriptions. At this time, she was arrested. She demanded to be let go because she was on her way to see her probation officer in New Jersey. She was arraigned in front of Judge Waltman and sent to Bucks County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
