Police: Vanilla Extract Thief Nabbed by Grocery Store Staff
A man was caught trying to take some strange products from the Feasterville Giant, police said.
A 57-year-old Feasterville man was caught trying to steal several items from the Giant Food Store on Bustleton Pike in Lower Southampton on Sunday.
According to township police, the suspect was caught by store loss prevention officials trying swipe 7 bottles of vanilla extract and a can of Clamato juice, which is cocktail made with tomato juice and several added spices. The items were estimated to be worth $48.02, authorities said.
An assistant manager for the store indicated that she wanted the 57-year-old charged for the theft. Store employees told police this is not the first time the man has taken merchandise from the grocery store.

Staff at the store were recognized the 57-year-old stopped him when he tried to leave with the stolen items in a bag, police said.
Police indicated the suspect has four previous convictions for retail theft.

The 57-year-old was arraigned and released on $20,000 unsecured bail by District Justice William Benz.
No word from police on what the suspect planned to do with the Clamato juice and all that vanilla extract.
