Police Make 3 DUI Arrests at Weekend Checkpoint

Police charged Jay Platt, 65 of Richboro, with simple assault, reckless endangerment to another person and harassment after his wife reported he pushed her and closed a car window on her forearm in the parking lot. His wife later went back to the swim club at about 1 a.m. due to an alarm and found Platt in his vehicle. She told police she asked him if he was afraid of someone breaking into the club and held up a silver hand gun, which he did not point at her, and said he wasn't afraid of anyone. Platt was taken into custody at gunpoint by police at the swim club. He was arraigned and unsecured bail was set at $25,000 with the condition of no contact with his wife. He was released on bail.

During a DUI checkpoint, officers made contact with Tamaz Guliashvili, 41 of Philadelphia, as he was driving his 2008 Nissan on Street Road. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person and his eyes were watery eyes and a flush complexion. He failed some of the field sobriety test and registered .10 percent on a breath test. Guliashvili was placed under arrest and consented to a blood draw. DUI charges are pending results of the blood test.

The complainant reported a male sleeping in the area of Brownsville Road near Philadelphia Avenue. The complainant also reported that this person was asking people for rides about 10 minutes before sleeping. Police made contact with the person matching the description at the entrance of the . The subject, Dave Hibner, 49 of Feasterville, appeared highly intoxicated and registered .17 percent on a breath test. He will be mailed a citation for public drunkenness.

During the DUI checkpoint, officers made contact with Peter Tvrdik, 34 of Connecticut, as he operated his 1997 BMW east on Street Road. Tvrdik appeared unsteady on his feet, had a heavy odor of alcohol and seemed confused, asking officers "Where were you born?" He could not perform field sobriety tests and registered .26 percent on a breath test. Tvrdik was placed under arrest and consented to a blood draw. He will be charged with DUI pending results of the blood test.

During the DUI checkpoint, officers made contact with Steven Castiglia, 28 of Bensalem, as he was operating his 2010 Nissan Maxima on Street Road. After detecting the odor of alcohol on his breath, he admitted to officers that had consumed an alcoholic drink that night. His eyes were also glassy and bloodshot. Castiglia failed field sobriety tests and registered .08 on a breath test. Upon his arrest, he told police that he was taking Percocet for an injury. Officers found a baggie on him containing four tablets, which Castiglia identified as Percocet. Charges will be filed upon receipt of the Bucks County Crime Lab and toxicology results.

The complainant reported that his email was hacked into and a message was sent to all of his contacts stating that he was robbed and injured while in the United Kingdom and all his money and credit cards were stolen. It also said that he was sending the email from a library in England and needed $1,650 sent ASAP to help get home.

The victim told police that at about 9:30 p.m. he heard two knocks on his apartment door. When he opened the door, an unknown actor covered the victim's eyes with his hand, knocked him to the ground, punched him in the side and demanded money. The actor wouldn't let the victim up to get him money and had his eyes covered the entire time. The victim said that there were two actors -- the second actor went through the victim's apartment while the first actor had him on the ground. The only thing taken from the apartment was a box of prescription medications, which were not narcotics.

While on patrol, an officer observed James Bowman, 48 of Langhorne, laying partially in the road and in a flower bed in front of a residence. He has highly intoxicated. He reported trying to ride and walk his bike home when he fell and possibly broke his ankle. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital. He will be cited for public drunkenness via mail.

The complainant told police that her husband noticed in the morning that someone had been in their vehicle that was parked in their driveway and left unlocked. Valuables were still in the car, though items were strewn about the vehicle.

The complainant reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle overnight and went through it, although nothing appeared to be missing. She found a gold purse on the ground near her car containing cards belonging to a resident of Avenue D, who filed a theft complaint that morning.
