Burglary, Forced Entry
400 block of Veit Road, Huntington Valley
Thursday, June 23, 2011
While on a routine patrol just after midnight, an officer saw an unoccupied car parked and left running in front of the gate at Jeff Connelly Paving. The officer ran the car's tags and it came up as stolen out of Bensalem. After taking the keys out of the ignition, police checked the yard surround the business's warehouse. Police observed a screen that had been removed and damaged on the ground next to the window. The window was open and there were several hand tools on the ground under the window sill. An air impact gun and sanding bit set were found on the ground outside of the fenced yard. At this time, police did not see anyone inside of the building. A perimeter was put in place with Upper and Lower Southampton officers; surrounding Bucks and Montgomery County townships were notified that there were one or more subjects were on foot in the area. At about 3:36 a.m. Thursday, Lower Moreland Police stopped two "suspiscious" juveniles at Buck Road and Huntington Pike. The subjects, who were soaked, came out from behind bushes on Huntington Pike. When they were stopped by police, they said they were lost and asked where Countyline Road was. The two, who said they were from the Somerton section of Philadelphia, got lost and were running through backyards and over fences trying to get home. Police reported that the two were soaked and covered in mud, grass and weeds; one was missing a sneaker that he said he got stuck in mud while going over a fence and couldn't find it. Officers found the other sneaker stuck in the mud behind Jeff Connelly Paving; it matched the one the teen lost. They were taken into custody and transported to the Bensalem police station for a live scan. The two teens' parents were called and refused to allow DNA to be taken. Both teens were taken back to the Lower Southampton police station. Both teens' parents also requested to speak to an attorney prior to questioning. The Bucks County Juvenile Detention Center agreed to take the teens in; they were transported there by a Lower Southampton officer. Charges of burglary, criminal trespass, possessing an instrument of crime, prohibited offensive weapon were filed for the one teen. The other teen had the charges of burglary, criminal trespass and possessing an instrument of crime filed against him. There was a hearing for the two Friday, June 24 at 8:30 a.m.
