Man Charged in Fatal Route 1 Racing Crash

Aurelio Xhepaj, of Philadelphia, was charged with vehicular homicide Tuesday in connection to a fatal Labor Day crash.

A Philadelphia man was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Joseph Falcone on charges of criminal homicide, homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle and other offenses, according to PhillyBurbs. These charges are related to a one-vehicle Labor Day crash on Route 1 that killed a 19-year-old female passenger.

Aurelio Xhepaj, 19, was allegedly street racing his Volvo against another vehicle at the time of the accident. Police said he lost control on Lincoln Highway near Street Road, left the northbound lanes, rolled several times and struck a business sign and caught fire.

According to police, Michelle Price, 19, of North Carolina, was declared dead at the accident scene. Xhepaj and the other passenger, Mary Logan, of Philadelphia, were ejected and seriously injured. They were transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital for treatment.
