Lower Southampton Police to Increase Patrols for Thanksgiving Eve

More Lower Southampton Police officers will be out Thanksgiving Eve looking for impaired drivers.

The night before Thanksgiving, or as some call it Thanksgiving Eve, is one of the biggest "drinking" holidays of the year. Because of that, the Lower Southampton Police Department will be increasing its patrols Wednesday night and will be on the look out for impaired drivers.

"That's always a busy night and our officers will be looking out for DUIs as they always do," Lieutenant Ted Krimmel told Patch.

"Typically we see a slight increase in alcohol related incidents around the holidays," he added.

Police Chief William Wiegman said that officers will be out on "roving patrols," but that the department sees most of DUI-related incidents and crashes on main roads like Street Road and Bustleton Pike.

Krimmel echoed Wiegman, noting that Street Road and Bustleton Pike and other main roads in Lower Southampton "are often the sites of serous accidents."
