Drunk Driver Almost Hits Police Officer Head On; Ensues Police Chase

The HR manager of Berger Brothers reported to police the theft of cooper roof drainage products from the back of the trailer that occurred Sept. 2 between 12:55 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Surveillance video shows a pick up truck with a large landscaping trailer entering the parking lot and then exiting 20 minutes later. She said that if someone had stolen the products from inside the alarm system would indicate the someone was in the building. The down spouts that were stolen were 10-feet long and would fit in the trailer seen in the surveillance video.

While on patrol on Bristol Road at County Farms, an officer noticed a vehicle go around the detour road closed sign and drive of S & S property. The vehicle drove up to the site where the workers were filling in a 14-deep foot hole. The vehicle paused for a second and then drove over the freshly laid dirt and metal grate in the construction zone. The officer stopped the vehicle and detected the odor of alcohol coming from the driver while speaking with him. He failed field sobriety tests and registered .13 on a breath test. He was arrested for DUI and consented to a blood draw.

At about 2 a.m. an officer was patrolling and had just passed through the one-lane tunnel near the Phoenix Sport Club when he observed a Chevy pick up truck coming West bound in the East bound lane. The officer had to swerve to the right side of the road to avoid being hit by the pick up truck head on. When the truck passed his vehicle, the driver locked up the tires attempting to navigate through the tunnel. The officer reported that he was driving 55 - 60 mph just to keep a visual of the truck, which was travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the truck went through a solid red light at Bristol Road and 2nd Street Pike in Southampton. At this time, several Southampton and Northampton officers behind the truck. The truck pulled over in the area of 2nd Street Pike and Upland Road. When officers made contact with the driver, he had a strong odor of alcohol coming from him and his eyes were red and speech was slurred. He seemed agitated at being stopped. He refused to perform field sobriety tests at the scene and also refused a blood draw. Officers found that he was driving on a suspended license. He is suspended and not allowed to operate the vehicle.
