What's Open, Closed on Columbus Day?

Columbus Day, a nationally recognized federal holiday, falls on Monday, Oct. 8 this year. While it is an opportunity for some to sleep in on a Monday, the holiday itself is also interesting, and a great time to celebrate and shop.

Here's the list of what is open and closed in Lower Southampton on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 8:

Open:

• All Neshaminy School District schools and its administrative offices
• Retail Stores, including the Neshaminy Mall
• Car Dealerships
• Supermarkets
• Restaurants
• Convenience Stores
• Bars/Taverns
• B&R Family Fitness Club, Planet Fitness, Crossfit Lifeforce

Call ahead before heading to any of the above establishments to confirm they are open. Many retail stores or gyms/health clubs may be operating on a Sunday schedule or with limited hours.

Closed:

• Banks 
• No mail delivery - All U.S post offices are closed
• Stock Market
• Federal Offices
• State Offices
• Bucks County Offices
• District Court
• PennDOT License Centers
• Lower Southampton Township Building
• Lower Southampton Township Library

According to the History Channel website, "[Columbus] intended to chart a western sea route to China, India and the fabled gold and spice islands of Asia; instead, he landed in the Bahamas, becoming the first European to explore the Americas since the Vikings set up colonies in Greenland and Newfoundland during the 10th century."
