Hurricane Irene is slated to affect our area this weekend, but when?

If you have not already heard, this weekend. The Category 3 hurricane (on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale) is estimated to make its way to the East Coast Saturday or Sunday, possibly having a devastating impact on New Jersey and the surrounding areas.

Weather.com has projected Irene's path as pointing right in the direction of the East Coast this weekend and is threatening strong winds on Sunday, downed trees and power outages.

Here is your Lower Southampton forecast:

  • Today: Enjoy the weather today while it lasts. Today will be sunny with a high of 87 degrees. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 mph. Humidity will be at 68 percent and there is a zero percent chance of precipitation. 
  • Tonight: Overnight it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 71 degrees. There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation with winds coming from the southeast at 6 mph.
  • Saturday: There will be showers with a high of 78 degrees. There is a 50 percent chance of precipitation with humidity at 83 percent.
  • Saturday night: There again will be rain with an overnight low of 68 degrees. There is a 70 percent chance of precipitation overnight. Weather.com is reporting that conditions are going to deteriorate overnight.
  • Sunday: There is going to be heavy rain and winds with a high of 73 degrees. Winds will be at 29 mph and humidity will be at 80 percent. These strong winds could cause downed trees and power outages.
  • Sunday night: Again, there will be showers with an overnight low of 64 degrees. Winds will be at 19 mph.
