According to a PennDOT press release, the contractor is removing beams as part of the project to replace Rt. 1’s three-span, pre-stressed box beam bridge with a new single-span, pre-stressed concrete beam structure.

Crews are also rebuilding and realigning the Rt. 1 ramps to Rt. 213; resurfacing the roadway approaches and ramps; installing glare screens on the median barrier; erecting overhead sign structures; installing new signs, pavement markers and guide rail; and upgrading drainage systems.

The speed limit on Rt. 1 is reduced from 55 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour in the construction zone.
