January 16: Neshaminy Parents, NFT to Hold Rallies

Here are your five things for January 16, 2012.

1. According to Weather.com, today is going to be sunny, along with a few afternoon clouds and a high of 38 degrees. There's a chance of rain showers in the evening becoming more intermittent overnight with a low of 34 degrees.

2. Today is Martin Luther King Day. Although Neshaminy school were previously slated to be closed for the holiday, prompted the district to offer its today. This service will be available only at Hoover and schools. Call 215-757-2554 if you need this service.

3. Neshaminy Taxpayers/Parents will be holding a rally this morning at 9 a.m. at . Local representatives as well as school board members are scheduled to appear. The local group of parents are sponsoring the rally to "keep [their] support for the school board growing by putting the facts out in the public eye in-regards to the NFT Strike."

4. The Neshaminy Federation of Teachers is hosting a member/guest-only labor rally this morning at Core Creek Park in Langhorne. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the rally will focus on labor’s role in America and include speeches concerning the ongoing contract dispute between the NFT and the Neshaminy School District. It will include music and a live singing performance in support of NFT’s striking teachers. Coinciding with Martin Luther King Day, the rally will also focus on non-violent protest. In honor of the special day, teachers will be conducting a food drive to benefit those in need who live in the Neshaminy community.

5. The if the school board would agree to around the clock negotiations. School Board President Ritchie Webb issued a letter to the NFT stating that the . As of Sunday evening, Webb still had not received word from the NFT.
