The Neshaminy School Board will reconvene tonight after a summer hiatus in a combined work session and public meeting at Maple Point Middle School at 7 p.m.

According to the agenda posted on the school district's website, the board will consider non-renewal and demotion of staff as well as the approval of an assessment appeal.

The board is also expected to address The Learning Center (TLC), which was on the chopping block during the budget approval process for the 2012-2013 school year. Phillyburbs reported that administrators ran into problems with the plan that helped them keep the TLC program intact.

The plan was marked by a scaled back level of service, staffing cuts and reduced spending at the school, which was presented to the board in June by former principal Joann Holland and her staff. Holland is now the principal of Poquessing Middle School.

Also tonight, the board is being asked to authorize McKissick Associates and district administration to prepare PlanCon materials.

According to Phillyburbs, McKissick Associates prepared a report for the district from a study that outlined the potential long-term savings if certain schools were closed and a new facility was built at the Tawanka site.

The report contained several options, but the elementary schools that could face closure are Samuel Everitt, Lower Southampton, Oliver Heckman, Walter Miller and Pearl S. Buck.

School Board President Ritchie Webb told Phillyburbs that Neshaminy will inform the state of some sort of consolidation plan as early as September. If this notification occurs before September 30, the district would qualify for construction aid from the Department of Education to the tune of about $3.8 million to $8 million, according to the report prepared by McKissick Associates.
