Neshaminy Federation of Teachers leaders said Wednesday that they are pleased to learn that the Neshaminy School Board has taken the possibility of class size increases off of the table "following NFT leafleting and contacts with parents about the issue."

“This is a huge victory for students and for our schools,” NFT President Louise Boyd said in a press release issued by the union. The school district and its teachers continue to seek a new contract.

“We have said repeatedly that contract negotiations are not all about money,” Boyd said.

“Our talks are also about what works best for students. Parents and teachers know that class size is one of the key issues that affects whether kids succeed in school.”

According to the release, following NFT efforts to call attention to the class size increases included in the school board’s last contract proposal, Board President Ritchie Webb announced Monday that the district’s next proposal “will include clear language that will put aside any concerns the public may have regarding elementary or secondary school class sizes.”

Parents consistently rank class size at the top of their lists of school concerns. They want their children to get as much individualized attention as possible. Neshaminy teachers are in their fourth school year of working without a new contract.
