LSFD Rescues Missing Dog on Thanksgiving

Members of the Lower Southampton Fire Department helped rescue a missing dog on Thanksgiving.

One local family had a little more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving thanks to the Lower Southampton Fire Department.

Thanksgiving afternoon, the fire company received a call for help to assist in the rescue of a family member in distress.

A Sheltie named Riley, according to the fire company, went missing around 4:30 a.m. Thursday and the family notified the police.

The fire company reported that three men walking along trails happened to look over a 40-foot cliff and saw Riley stuck in the marshy area at the bottom of the cliff. Riley was not making any noise.

The men called 911 and members of the fire company waded through the stagnant water and helped Riley back to safety.
