Cheese Dawgs to Open Thursday

The new Bustleton Pike business will serve up grilled cheese sandwiches and a variety of hot dogs.

A new restaurant—Cheese Dawgs—will open its doors on Thursday, May 10, with a menu strictly offering fast and fun food, according to the owner.

"My concept was inspired from my children and their fun take on dining," owner Rick Tyrrell explained to Patch in an e-mail. "Cheese Dawgs is a mesh between fun childhood food and a fast, tasty treat or meal."

The restaurant, located at 318 Bustleton Pike in Feasterville, which was formerly Bagel House, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Cheese Dawgs will serve food that's "cheaper than a gallon of gas."

The menu (attached to the media portion of this article) will offer a variety of grilled cheese and hot dogs, for an affordable price. Most dishes start at $3 and extras can be added for 50 cents a piece.

Build your own grilled cheese for $3, by choosing white, wheat or rye bread and adding your choice of American, cheddar, Swiss or sharp provolone to the mix. Or try a signature grilled cheese, like Swiss on white with buffalo chicken, for just $3.50.

Snack on a plain dog for $2 or substitute a footlong, veggie or turkey dog for an extra $1. Signature dogs are also available for a little more. For $3, try the South Philly (spicy mustard, sharp provolone and sauteed onions), the Dallas (Texas chili or Texas Tommy) or the Chicago (pickle, relish, onion, tomato, mustard and pepper).

Tyrrell decided after more than 20 years in the food industry that he didn't enjoy the attitude of chain restaurants, which gave him the idea to go into business for himself. Tyrrell's goal for Cheese Dawgs is to provide guests with the highest quality dining experience in a safe, clean and friendly environment.

Furthermore, Tyrrell wants to incorporate feedback from the community. He said he will have no problems changing the menu and the operating hours due to demand.

Cheese Dawgs will be appropriate for a variety of customers in the community. The diner who can't splurge on lunch or dinner, the business man or woman on the go, or food for the family with picky eaters.

In addition to the regular menu items, the restaurant will have a hot dog challenge where guests can try and eat the 24-inch "Beast" hot dog in 10 minutes. Cheese Dawgs will also offer Grilled Ice Cream Sandwiches that feature pound cake from the Feasterville Family Bakery. The menu also includes a few soups and sides.
