Two teenage relatives are in area hospitals after a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Woodbourne and Oxford Valley roads in the Levittown section of Middletown.
The Christmas morning crash has left an 18-year-old male in serious condition fighting for his life at St. Mary Medical Center. His 16-year-old relative is suffering from "serious" injuries and was airlifted to St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia, police said.
What caused the crash remains under investigation as of late Tuesday night, according to police.
A 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a Brad Darcy of Levittown struck a 2002 Ford Focus, carrying the teenagers, driven by Levittown's Donna Vansant at 9:35 a.m. Darcy was uninjured and Vansant suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Mary Medical Center by the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad, police said.
The two teenagers, both the grandchildren of Vansant, had to be extricated by crews from the nearby William Penn Fire Co. Police said the Penndel-Middletown Rescue Squad transported the 18-year-old to the hospital.
The intersection was closed for more than an hour on Christmas as police investigated the scene.
Witnesses with any information to the crash are urged to contact Middletown officer Ben Cook of the Middletown Township Police Department at 215-750-3800 ext. 462.
