United Church of Christ in Warminster to Sponsor 11th Annual Home for the Holidays Dinner
The United Church of Christ in Warminster’s mission statement is to “Share God’s Love with Everyone”. On Christmas Day, the members and friends of the congregation will share God’s love with the community by sponsoring their 11th annual Home for the Holidays dinner. From 1:00-2:30 people who could otherwise not afford a holiday dinner or who would be alone on the holiday are invited into the church’s fellowship hall for a free traditional holiday buffet with all the trimmings.
Eleven years ago this tradition was started by former congregants, Sharon and Ray Bleiler, in memory of their young niece, Morgan Pena, who was tragically killed in a car crash. Although the family no longer attends the church we continue the dinner in her memory. The group that presents the dinner as part of the work of the Mission Outreach Team of the church is led by congregant Mari Errico.
Over the next several weeks the kitchen of the church, located at 785 W. Street Rd. in Warminster, will begin to be filled with all the fixings for a Christmas dinner, and all items will be donated by members and friends. From turkey to ham, sweet potatoes to stuffing, pies to cookies, all sorts of delicious goodies will be prepared. The fellowship hall will be festively decorated. Holiday music will be led by our Music Minister, Andrew Waddell.
As an Open and Affirming congregation, the United Church of Christ in Warminster welcomes all without regard to age, race, faith background, ability, socio economic status or sexual orientation. Any persons or organizations available to donate time or food to this event should reach out to the group leader, Mari Errico (UCCWHomeForTheHolidays@gmail.com). All members of the community can help by spreading the word that this dinner is open and available to all. Transportation can be arranged to the event for those in need by calling the church at 215-675-8808.
